Dr. Jacob Pourat

General Dentist

Born and raised in Bergen County, NJ, Dr. Jacob Pourat—known to his patients as Dr. J (yes, like the basketball legend, but with even better hand eye coordination!) —brings a deep commitment to his community and a unique blend of science, compassion, and approachability to his work as a general and cosmetic dentist.

Dr. J earned his Bachelor’s degree in Cell Biology and Neuroscience and a Master’s in Biomedical Sciences from Rutgers University, where he developed a strong interest in how science translates into real-world health and healing. His interest in dentistry, however, began much earlier—as a child dealing with extensive dental issues and surgeries. That personal experience gave him a deep empathy for patients and a firsthand understanding of the life-changing impact of quality dental care.

Before pursuing dentistry, Dr. J started his professional career as a cancer research scientist, publishing multiple studies in top-tier scientific journals. His time in the lab sharpened his ability to critically evaluate scientific literature—an essential skill he now applies to stay current with the latest dental advancements and provide evidence-based care. He also studied bio engineering at NYU Tandon School of Engineering, where he gained a strong understanding of how angles, forces, and mechanics affect the bite—a perspective that’s been especially useful in his work with restorative dentistry and Invisalign, for which he is certified.

He went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from Touro College of Dental Medicine in New York. With his strong scientific foundation and a genuine passion for helping others, Dr. J aims to make every patient feel informed, relaxed, and well cared for.

A former volunteer EMT, he brings calm under pressure and a people-first approach to everything he does.

When he’s not crafting beautiful smiles, Dr. J enjoys playing the piano, battling it out at trivia night, diving into great films, and cheering (sometimes against his better judgment) for the Knicks. Above all, he loves spending time with his wife Danya, their daughter, and their extended family and friends.
